Good luck! My second day was not bad at all. A little tired, a mildly sore arm for a few hours, and that was it. I hope your next-day recuperation period goes just as smoothly.

Two and through. My wife gets her second in 16 days. Two weeks after that, we’ll be home free.

I got my second dose today. The vaccine seems to be a lot easier to get now for those that want it. My niece got her first shot last week and I was able to get my neighbor an appointment a couple of weeks ago at a nearby CVS. Lots of clinics are popping up as well.

In the past few weeks, there have been enormous inroads in getting my local area vaccinated. Lots of people were excited about getting the Johnson & Johnson one dose vaccine, which some of them have. However, with the pause on Johnson & Johnson just instituted by the FDA due to 6 women aged 18-48 having suffered blood clots within two weeks of getting the Johnson & Johnson out of 7-8 million, the hope of getting everyone vaccinated as quickly as possible takes another blow. The hesitant will only find another excuse to refuse to be vaccinated.

In a glowing silver lining to the year-long covid cloud, the mRNA technology that underlies the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines potentially has many more uses.

So, a week ago last Tuesday I made a quick stop at my local Winn-Dixie on the way home; and, a woman there asked me if I had gotten a covid vaccine. I said no, and, she said the last appointment for the day canceled and I could get that shot. I got the Moderna vaccine. So far, the only side effect was mild soreness, not severe enough to keep me from doing anything, at the injection site for a day and a half. My second shot is scheduled for 6:40 PM, Tuesday, April 27.

Good for you. Where there's a will, there's a way. More people should take advantage of this end-of-day waste.

I think they do it in groups of ten because it's more efficient that way. I'm sure they would have taken care of you if you were the only one there at closing time.

Got my first shot. Los Angeles hasn't opened for my age/career yet but I kept hearing about how they were throwing away vaccines at the end of the day due to people making appointments and not showing up. So... I had a friend photoshop a paystub for a server, I showed up at Dodger Stadium at the end of the day, and there were so few people showing up for their appointments, they made me wait thirty minutes because (I guess?) they needed five or ten people lined up before they could administer vaccines.

First shot of Moderna: my arm hurt for two days, general exhaustion (possibly from work), no other side effects.

So disappointing to see what's happened to Van Morrison.

Talking about change, I spoke to someone yesterday with all kinds of compromising conditions who two weeks after his second shot, three weeks after his wife's second shot, were able to have their nearby daughter and son-in-law and twin six-year-old grandchildren, as well as their son and daughter-in-law and their two children, who drove down from Connecticut, in their home for the first time since the pandemic began on Saturday.

Personally, I feel comfortable making appointments again. I've had the plumber twice, the handyman for a problem with the siding on my house, and the heating guy here for emergencies, have seen my regular doctor and dentist, but not my ENT doctor or eye doctor and have only had my car serviced once since the rigmarole began. I've kept store visits down to once every two weeks and although I speak to friends and relatives regularly on the phone, I have seen only one - a cousin who surprised me on my birthday with gifts but did not come in the house. When I talk to neighbors, it's always six feet or more away and I don't have lengthy in-person conversations with them unless they're wearing masks. A lot of them are Trumpers who won't wear masks unless forced to. I don't want to have lengthy conversations with them anyway, so in those cases, it's been a blessing.

Got my first today, and it was so uneventful it's hardly worth reading my post.

Because most places nearer to me were booked, I had to drive 35 minutes to my scheduled appointment. It was held in a dialysis center, and seemed orderly and very well run to me. There were only 4 people ahead of me. And the whole process leading up to the injection took between 5-10 minutes. About 30 seconds before injection, I had this fleeting feeling of the enormity of what was going to happen. It was this one powerful moment of significance in an otherwise banal procedure. I thought "This is going to change everything" although of course it's the opposite that's true. It's the virus that's changed everything, and the shot supposedly is going to bring everything back to normal. We'll see. The shot itself - Pfiser - was an painless as any I've received, and I did not even get that lingering "sore arm" or "site pain" or whatever. Hopefully, that's a good omen for shot #2.

One more thing worth mentioning. I waited 15 minutes in a very large room used for post-vaccine "observation". A radio was on for us to listen to while we waited, and who should come on? Irony of ironies, Van Morrison.

When I was teaching, we weren't allowed contractually to take off the day before or the day after a break unless we had prior permission. I think that they also accepted doctor's notes, though. A few people on occasion took the day off anyway and had their pay docked as a result. I suppose that they might have made an exception in a case like this.
We have to have permission to take personal leave right before a holiday (or during the first or last two weeks of the school year) but we can't really be questioned on sick leave, unless they think it's being abused. (And then they can ask for doctor's notes.) They also gave us COVID days this year in addition to sick days (which I think will roll over into sick days at the end of the year).

Feeling some better this morning. Headache is much better, still low energy and don't feel great physically, but I've got nowhere to be today, so I'll be fine.

The Sinopharm vaccine has been administered here in Pakistan during the first phase for the frontline workers followed by people 60 years and above.

On March 31 the second phase begins for people over 50 years of age. I can finally register.

If possible, clear your schedule the day after your second dose, just in case. I worked today. We had several teachers out already, yesterday we got out early due to severe weather and most of the students in my classes were not there, so I decided to just use the sub work that didn't get done yesterday. I could basically sit at the desk all day with minimal instructions, but I still should've stayed home. Today has been hell.
I hope that you feel better soon.
