Although Mason made my list, I gave the award to Joe E. Brown. I can never ever forget my first viewing of Some Like It Hot - the scenes where the camera keeps cutting between Curtis trying to seduce Marilyn, and Brown and Lemmon doing the tango. Brown is so innocent and hilarious at the same time.

Dorothy McGuire is simply heartbreaking in A Summer Place and walks off with the film. A sharp contrast to the main plot dealing with all the silliness between Sandra and Troy! And yes she is also exquisite in This Earth is Mine - but then she was always an incredibly classy lady. I still froth at the mouth when I recall how the stupid Academy did not include her in their memoriam tribute.

Reza, I like your idea of giving the supporting awards to James Mason and Dorothy McGuire.

I believe Mike Kelly was the first to award James Mason his 1959 award, but the choice of Dorothy McGuire is unique and quite wonderful. I actually thought she gave the year's most under-rated performance in 1959's now forgotten This Earth Is Mine, but I'll support her victory for A Summer Place as any opportunity to honor this exquisite actress should be taken advantage of.

Too bad Douglas Sirk, instead of Henry King, wasn't the director of This Earth Is Mine. We might be talking about a classic instead of a forgotten glossy tearjerker.
