I guess Italiano we do, after all, share a similar ''taste'' in acting. Is it really all that bad???

My heart would go for Simone Signoret, always a wonderful actress, and easily the best thing about Ship of Fools. At one point in the long movie she has a beautiful monologue in which she remembers how she, the lover of a central american dictator, joined the revolution against him after she visited a very poor family's house. The film comes alive in that moment, and any time she's onscreen.

But my head suggests me to vote for Julie Christie, in the role which made her a star (it helps that she's good in it, too).

All five performances are strong and any would be a good choice, but the movie year 1965 was all about The Sound of Music.

There was a reason it became the highest grossing film of all time up to then, a film that people around the world paid to see dozens of times. The music, the story, the children, the location filming in Salzburg all helped, but the big reason was Julie Andrews. I can't give my vote to anyone else this year.

It's a neck to neck race for me between Christie & Andrews. Love both performances.....though Darling has dated badly while The Sound of Music has not. Still Christie was the face of the swinging 60's scene and here she is all about that particular scene.

Come to think of it all 5 actresses are superb and any one would have been a worthy winner.

My own top 5 are:

Julie Christie, Darling
Julie Andrews, The Sound of Music
Samantha Eggar, The Collector
Simone Signoret, Ship of Fools
Catherine Deneuve, Repulsion

Hartman would get my 6th spot.
