I'm happy Whoopi has an Oscar but Benning or Ladd should have won that year.

I went with Sorvino if only for the fact that she beat out Winslet and Allen.

Tempted to go for Whoopi Goldberg who is so clearly inferior to Annette Bening (in maybe her best plastic performance) and Lorraine Bracco, but she's the best thing in Ghost so it's hard to hate on her.

None of these performances struck me as truly bad, just very mediocre. Probably going to have to go with Mira Sorvino, even though she's not terrible, just nothing interesting or nearly as good as her non-Kathleen Quinlan competition.

Yeah, her father is Paul Sorvino.

Isn't Sorvino related to someone famous which opened the door for her? I still remember when Paquin won and stood at the stage hyperventilating and smiling. I think I was her age and though "that should be me". Maybe if she wins another one really late in her life she'll break a record of longest time between Oscars or something.

it's still mind-boggling to me that her irritating, lightweight "performance" beat Judy Davis and Vanessa Redgrave.

Everyone expected Davis to win. It was a big injustice.

Mira Sorvino over Joan Allen is one of the all-time worst Oscar choices.

I actually think that Paquin is one of the best winners of that decade. Very powerful performance. Winona Ryder's May Welland in "The Age of Innocence" is subtly manipulative but I thought they picked the right actress that year.

SORVINO! Ugh.

Tomei was good. I liked her.

Which of these Best Supporting Actress winners gave the least impressive performance?

I went with Tomei. 12 years after the fact, it's still mind-boggling to me that her irritating, lightweight "performance" beat Judy Davis and Vanessa Redgrave.
