I changed the title to Liz Smith (actress) as the more famous Liz Smith in the U.S. is the slightly younger Texas-born gossip columnist, aged 93.

Memorable as Maggie Smith's mother in A Private Function and devastating in an early Mike Leigh 1973 TV film Hard Labour.
