He's had years of health issues, or course, but it still hits hard.

I don't know if those born in the last 30 or so years can have any concept of how enormous a figure this guy was. Massively controversial, adored and despised -- Babe Ruth and P.T. Barnum in one package; the most famous black figure in the world during the Civil Rights era (yes, MLK was obviously greater, but he wasn't as widely known). For a long time, truly larger than life.
