Re: [NE] Nomination Elim Game ('06-CINEMANOLIS)
I don't think Cinemanolis has made his way back yet, but it has been quite a while, so I am going to skip him for now and let him catch up when he returns. OscarGuy is up!

1. Replace The Queen in Best Picture with Volver.
2. My favorite nomination-morning surprise in '06 was The Good German's score, which I maintain is the best of the nominees this year, so I was sad to see that go. And yet, I think The Black Dahlia is an absolute must-have in Best Cinematography, so I'll rescue it and replace The Prestige.
3. Preserve Dreamgirls in Costume Design.

GROUP 1
The Departed may not be a great film, but it's a ridiculously entertaining one and I will preserve Martin Scorsese's deserving win.
GROUP 2
Replace Philip Glass' overpowering score for Notes on a Scandal with Nathan Johnson's fantastic noir-y chimes for Brick.
GROUP 3
I consider Penelope Cruz's bust and ass to be an aspect of costuming, so I will replace The Queen with Volver in the category of Best Costume Design.

"How's the despair?"
Group 1: Dump Little Miss Sunshine in Best Picture and replace it with The Lives of Others.
Group 2: Drop Blood Diamond in Editing, and replace it with Letters From Iwo Jima.
Group 3: Replace Pan's Labyrinth in Art Direction with The Lives of Others. (Kind of hate to replace Pan's Labyrinth, which was one of the better nominees of that lineup, but The Lives of Others really deserved a spot, and there was no other option.)

Because sometimes a move isn't only getting deserving nominees in there, but getting undeserving ones out. The special effects of Superman Returns were pretty amateurish and uninteresting, so I wanted to get them out of there as much as get the ones from Pan's Labyrinth in.OscarGuy wrote:And why are people replacing in categories like Visual Effects when they can just add the nominees separately..

Group 1: Rescue Gosling and replace O'Toole (and, Hustler, I believe the reason Whitaker was removed was so that he could be added to Supporting Actor where he belongs)
Group 2: Preserve Pan's Labyrinth in Original Screenplay
Group 3: Preserve Dreamgirls in Art Direction

I know it's my turn. I left everything Unread so I could come back to a reminder I needed to do it, but the system likes to mark stuff off even if I haven't asked it to. I'll try to get to this today.
