28th Hundred Flowers Awards - nominees

(Originally an annual event, the China's People's Choice Awards are presented biennally from now on. Golden Rooster Awards, China's Oscars, are presented in alternate years.)

(The Awards are now open to Taiwanese/HK directors and actors as well, as long as the nominated films are either China productions or co-productions.)

(Two new categories: Director & Newcomer. Qualified "Newcomer" can be either a cast or crew member who is involved in less than 4 feature films.)

(The Award presentation will be held on Oct 29 in Hangzhou ... half a year away!)

I wanted to rename the "25th HK Film Awards" thread but I'm not allowed to. So I create this new thread to update you guys on all those annual (or biennal) awards in Chinese (including HK & Taiwan) Cinema.

Here's the latest one,

6th Chinese Media Film Awards

(Award Ceremony: Apr 17, 2006)

Picture: ELECTION (HK)
Director: Gu Changwei, PEACOCK (Mainland China)
Actor: Tony Leung Ka-fai, ELECTION
Actress: Zhang Jingchu, PEACOCK
Supp Actor: Yao Anlian, SHANGHAI DREAMS (Mainland China)
Supp Actress: Lin Chia Yu, THE MOON ALSO RISES (Taiwan)
New Director: Li Yu, DAM STREET (Mainland China)
New Performer: Feng Li, PEACOCK
Screenplay: Li Qiang, PEACOCK
Outstanding Contribution Award: Lee Han-Hsiang

* PEACOCK took Grand Jury Prize Silver Bear at Berlin'05.
* SHANGHAI DREAMS bagged Special Jury Prize at Cannes'05.
* DAM STREET was in competition at Venice'05.
* Interestingly, PEACOCK, SHANGHAI DREAMS and DAM STREET are all female coming-of-age themed (or with such a strong element) movies set in post-Cultural Revolution era (i.e., predominantly during 1980s) in rural area or small towns. There are at least 3 more Chinese films that share the same theme and setting which were released in the last 2 years. I have written an article (In Chinese, though) to analyze such a trend.
