As according to Forbes Magazine. I've posted the list backwards (and adjusted the commentary accordingly) just for the fun of it.
To qualify for Forbes' Most Overpaid Stars list, each actor had to have starred in at least three movies over the last five years that opened in more than 500 theaters. Forbes then divided total operating income on the three films by the actor's total compensation, including salaries and earnings from DVD and TV sales. What follows is a list of the most overpaid stars.
10. Jim Carrey
Gone are the days of Jim Carrey's box office hits. For every dollar the funnyman earns, his movies only take in an average of $8.62.
9. Samuel L. Jackson
Samuel L. has appeared in seven movies over the last two year -- but none have done very well. His movies make an average of $8.59 for every dollar he makes.
8. Leonardo DiCaprio
DiCaprio takes home a big paycheck for movies, so they have to do well at the box office to justify it. Unfortunately, most of his latest movies have had middling success. His movies earn $7.52 for every $1 he makes.
7. Drew Barrymore
The only actress on the list, Drew Barrymore nets the studios $7.43 for every dollar she takes home.
6. Tom Cruise
For every dollar Suri's dad makes, the studios get $7.18.
5. Ice Cube
Mr. Cube's movies only earn $4.77 for every dollar he makes. That's a big jump from #6 Tom Cruise's $7.18.
4. Eddie Murphy
For every $1 Eddie Murphy makes, his films make $4.43.
3. Billy Bob Thornton
Thornton is one of the lowest-paid actors on the list, which doesn't speak very highly for how his films do at the box office. When Thornton earns $1, his films earn $4.00.
2. Ewan McGregor
McGregor's recent flops have landed him at #2. For every dollar McGregor earns, his films make $3.75.
1. Will Ferrell
Will Ferrell came in at #1, which considering that his last big movie was "Land of the Lost," we are hardly surprised. For each $1 Ferrell makes, his films earn $3.29.
