Topic title should be changed to "More Cutbacks at all Newpapers and Periodicals Everywhere". The print news media is hemorraging jobs, and critics are being cut left and right. It's terrible.

People like Roger Ebert are safe. But how many will be replaced when they finally leave?

L.A. Times Film Critic Out

28 October 2008 2:42 AM, PDT

Movie critic Carina Chocano was among 75 editorial staff members of the Los Angeles whose jobs were eliminated Monday, leaving the newspaper, which keeps a close eye on the movie business, with only one full-time critic, Kenneth Turan. Two other Times film critics, Kevin Thomas and Kevin Crust, had previously accepted buyout packages to leave the newspaper. Many of those who were forced out or who agreed to take buy-out packages on Monday were longtime writers for the newspaper's "Calendar" section, which covers the arts.
