For regular films is January 1, 2009. For documentaries, shorts and foreign films, that date shifts back by at least two or three months. I don't know the exact dates (because I don't have tiem to look right now), but I think it's around October 1...

What is the earliest release date for a film to be eligible for 2009 Oscar nominations? ???
