Did anyone else catch the documentary TCM aired about 1939 last week? They are reairing it on Thursday night, I believe.

It is a real interesting probing of the "greatest year of Hollywood" and what was set into motion to create that pinnacle of film? They set out very strong arguments for several reasons, including the end of the depression, the rise of Naziism, the rise of several important careers, good timing and the widespread need for creating something new in Hollywood. I believe that it is all of these, plus the unmentioned fact that 10 years on everyone seems to have finally mastered the sound film and was starting to understand the color film.
