Star! never really worked. The Gertie Lawrence story wasn't of much interest to anyone in 1968. Most people who knew her knew her for The King and I which isn't even covered by the narrative. Julie was good in recreating Gertie's singing but the story between songs wasn't much of anything. Daniel Massey, though, was excellent playing his real-life godfather, Noel Coward. He deserved his Supporting Actor nomination.

I just read a biography of Rock Hudson as research for a story I'm writing and Ice Station Zebra was very much a "paycheck movie" for him, but his career was revived from its success at the box office. Personally, he thought the entire thing was hilariously ridiculous.

Star! is fucking awful. The only people who ever watch it now are Oscar completists like us. Serous misstep for Ms. Andrews.

Maybe I'm late to this party...Rosemary's Baby is on any kind of list with the words 'worst' and 'movie' used consecutively...even a list that is clearly as disreputable as this inanity??

I never saw Candy and I don't think I've ever seen more than a few minutes of Boom! My vote goes to Ice Station Zebra.
