Best Actress 1948-1957

Another tough one.

Vivien Leigh was certainly at her best in Streetcar, but we've already chosen her overwhelmingly as the best actress of Oscar's second decade. Olivia de Havilland peaked with The Heiress, never again to be as good. Gloria Swanson and Judy Garland both gave career high performances. Katharine Hepburn went on and on, but she was rarely if ever better than in Summertime. She gets my vote
