I couldn't find a connection either, but I did find out a few interesting facts about Helena Bonham Carter. Her grandfather, Maurice Bonham Carter, was a leading liberal politician and First Secretary to Henry Asquith (Anthony's father) when he was Prime Minister. Her mother is a Rothschild.

What the heck, I found another one:

Zasu Pitts 6 (Borzage, Curtiz, McCarey, Milestone, Taurog, Wise)

here's a few that don't quite make the grade:

Janet Gaynor 5* (Borzage, Fleming, Ford, Lloyd, Wyler*)
George O'Brien 3 (Curtiz, Ford, Lloyd)
Marguerite Churchill 3 (Borzage, Curtiz, Ford)
Will Rogers 2 (Borzage, Ford)
Charles Farrell 2 (Borzage, Fleming)

* not so sure this one counts- imdb lists her Wyler connection as uncredited roles in short films

We didn't update this list since Ma`y 2007. To resurrect the thread, I updated the master list with the following changes ...

Add Coen bros. to Tommy Lee Jones, making it 6 directors
Add Boyle & Mendes to Leonardo DiCaprio, making it 6 directors

Woody Harrelson worked with 7 (Brooks, Cimino, Coen bros., Forman, Howard, Levinson, Stone)
Holly Hunter worked with 5 (Boyle, Brooks, Coen bros., Demme, Spielberg)
Javier Bardem worked with 3 (Allen, Coen bros., Forman)
Josh Brolin too (Allen, Coen bros., Stone)
Tilda Swinton worked with 2 (Boyle, Coen Bros.)

Master list updated.

> And just cuz it tickles me, could we add Catherine Scorsese to the list of 2s (Coppola, Scorsese). She worked with more Oscar winning-directors than Sissy Spacek!!??! Wow.

Well, some "professional extras" who have hundreds of titles in their respective filmographies may have worked with more BDs with any established actors, especially during the first 30 years of Oscars. Take the two following actors who have appeared in 5 Oscar Best Pictures respectively, one of them have worked with 17 BDs while the other 15.

17 - Bess Flowers (Borzage, Capra, Cukor, Curtiz, Fleming, Ford, Lloyd, Mankiewicz, McCarey, Milestone, Minnelli, Stevens, Taurog, Wilder, Wise, Wyler, Zinnemann)

15 - Franklyn Farnum (Capra, Cukor, Curtiz, Ford, Kazan, Lloyd, Mankiewicz, McCarey, Minnelli, Stevens, Taurog, Wilder, Wise, Wyler, Zinnemann)

In fact, Bess Flowers have worked with every single Best Directors who received their awards during the first 19 editions of Oscars. She "missed" the 1947 winner Kazan and 1948 winner Huston but worked with the BD winners of the next 6 years (partly because there were plenty of repeating winners during those years). Kazan broke the continuity again in 1954 but then the next 3 years' BDs were on her "collaboration list", until Lean becoming the third BD to "sabotage" her. She got 5 more years until the fifth spoiler, Richardson took his stattuette (followed by Reed). There was another 3 years until Nichols upended the whole thing for good.

Coincidentally, I was watching THE TARNISHED ANGEL on video when I worked out Bess Flowers' list. She happened to be playing opposite Rock Hudson in those newspaper office scenes in the film.
