Re: Most Best Pictures

I know it's a few weeks after the last Oscars, but Beth Grant has now appeared in 3 Best Picture winners (Rain Man, No Country for Old Men, and The Artist) and Basil Hoffman has been elevated to 2 (Ordinary People, The Artist).

Geoffrey Rush is now in the 2-film club. He was also in Shakespeare in Love. Also added are Guy Pearce (The Hurt Locker) and Derek Jacobi (Gladiator).

Without any Hollywood-based actor in the cast of SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE, we can't update the list this year.

Yep. I updated it less than an hour after the Oscars were over.

Thanks for the correction! I happened to be fooled by his mobster image when I posted the message.

By the way, I hope you don't mind, but I'm incorporating your research into the Wikipedia page I'm doing.
I've spent a couple of hours to do countless clicks on IMDb. That means any other "eligible" actor or extra not listed on IMDb (or whose filmography is not completely listed on it) is overlooked.

You are welcome to incorporate the search results on Wikipedia.

Michael Pena - Million Dollar Baby; Crash

It's interesting to observe several "chains" in the early years of Oscars, say, actor A appeared in CASABLANCA and GOING MY WAY, followed by actor B appeared in GOING MY WAY and THE LOST WEEKEND, followed by actor C appeared in THE LOST WEEKEND and THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES, and so on ...

There were three chains in this regard,

Chain 1:
ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT (1930) -> CIMARRON (1931) -> GRAND HOTEL (1932) -> CALVACADE (1933)

[a gap between CALVACADE and IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT as there wasn't any actor who appeared in both movies ... correct me if you could find out one]

Chain 2:
IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT (1934) -> MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY (1935) -> THE GREAT ZIEGFIELD (1936) -> THE LIFE OF EMILE ZOLA (1937) -> YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU (1938) -> GONE WITH THE WIND (1939) -> REBECCA (1940)

[a gap between REBECCA and HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY]

Chain 3:
HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY (1942) -> CASABLANCA (1942, but qualified for Oscars a year later) -> GOING MY WAY (1944) -> THE LOST WEEKEND (1945) -> THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES (1946)

[a gap between THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES and ALL THE KING'S MEN]

Chain 4:
ALL THE KING'S MEN (1949) -> ALL ABOUT EVE (1950) -> AN AMERICAN IN PARIS (1951) -> THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH (1952) -> FROM HERE TO ETERNITY (1953) -> ON THE WATERFRONT (1954)

Chain 5:
PATTON (1970) -> THE FRENCH CONNECTION (1971) -> THE GODFATHER (1972)

Chain 6:
ANNIE HALL (1977) -> THE DEER HUNTER (1978) -> KRAMER VS. KRAMER (1978)

Such chaining phenonema are unlikely to occur in the future as more films are qualified for Oscars and indies have better chances to win the Best Pictures, i.e., the extras who used to be the people who "contributed" the most in forming the chains are now "scattered" in more films, making the hit rate of actors appearing in Best Pictures in two consecutive years drops.
