I'm glad you guys are posting this. For the past two months or so, I've been compiling a list of actors who have appeared in multiple best picture winners over on Wikipedia (I've added all but four entries). I'm adding the ones that I don't have on the list.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki....winners

Inky, Michael Pena has appeared in 2 consecutive Best Picture winners.

By the way, Harry Davenport is the only actor to have appeared in 3 consecutive winners (1937, '38, and '39). You only have him listed as appearing in 2. Michael Pena has a shot at joining him this year.
"Young men make wars and the virtues of war are the virtues of young men: courage and hope for the future. Then old men make the peace, and the vices of peace are the vices of old men: mistrust and caution." -- Alec Guinness (Lawrence of Arabia)

Jim, he was on my original list at the bottom of the thread because he was in three (also Gandhi) :)

Found more,

4 BEST PICTURES (both of them were kind of "professional extras")
Frank Baker - How Green Was My Valley; Mrs. Miniver; Around the World in 80 Days; My Fair Lady
Sam Harris - You Can't Take It with You; Around the World in 80 Days; My Fair Lady; The Sound of Music

3 BEST PICTURES
Jack Gwillim - Lawrence of Arabia; A Man for All Seasons; Patton
Joe Lo Grippo - The French Connection; The Godfather; The Godfather Part II

It seems that this is quite a distinctive club. What about those who have already appeared in two and are still active in the industry, i.e., those "two down, one to go" actors? I consider those surviving actors who have never appeared in any film in the last five years as inactive ones.

James Caan - The Godfather; The Godfather Part II
Simon Callow - Amadeus; Shakespeare in Love
Leslie Caron - An American in Paris; Gigi
Sofia Coppola - The Godfather; The Godfather Part II
Russell Crowe - Gladiator; A Beautiful Mind
Willem Dafoe - Platoon; The English Patient
Keith David - Platoon; Crash
Robert De Niro - The Godfather Part II; The Deer Hunter
Danny DeVito - One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest; Terms of Endearment
Brad Dourif - One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest; The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (extended version)
Robert DuVall - The Godfather; The Godfather Part II
Clint Eastwood - Unforgiven; Million Dollar Baby
Ralph Fiennes - Schindler's List; The English Patient
Colin Firth - The English Patient; Shakespeare in Love
Frances Fisher - Unforgiven; Titanic
David Gant - Gandhi; Braveheart
Richard Griffiths - Chariots of Fire; Gandhi
Gene Hackman - The French Connection; Unforgiven
Charlton Heston - The Greatest Show on Earth; Ben-Hur
Judd Hirsch - Ordinary People; A Beautiful Mind
Ian Holm - Chariots of Fire; The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
Anthony James - In the Heat of the Night; Unforgiven
Larry Joshua - Dances with Wolves; Unforgiven
Ben Kingsley - Gandhi; Schindler's List
Sean Lawlor - Braveheart; Titanic
Roger Morlidge - The English patient; Shakespeare in Love (He has a realistic chance to join the club this year due to his appearance in The Departed.)
Jack Nicholson - One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest; Terms of Endearment
Robert Redford - The Sting; Out of Africa
Gianni Russo - The Godfather; The Godfather Part II
Peter O'Toole - Lawrence of Arabia; The Last Emperor
Al Pacino - The Godfather; The Godfather Part II
Michael Peña - Million Dollar Baby; Crash (He has a realistic chance to join the club this year due to his appearance in Babel.)
Liisa Repo-Martell - Unforgiven; The English Patient
Shane Rimmer - Gandhi; Out of Africa
Gregor Truter - The English Patient; Shakespeare in Love
Abe Vigoda - The Godfather; The Godfather Part II
M. Emmet Walsh - Midnight Cowboy; Ordinary People
Christopher Walken - Annie Hall; The Deer Hunter
Tracy Walter - Annie Hall; The Silence of the Lambs
David Warner - Tom Jones; Titanic
Benny Young - Chariots of Fire; Out of Africa
Susannah York - Tom Jones; A Man for All Seasons

Also discovered a stuntman (later became a stunt coordinator) who served for five Best Pictures: The Bridge on the River Kwai, Ben-Hur, Lawrence of Arabia, A Man for All Seasons, Oliver!

On the other hand, which actors have appeared in Oscar Best Pictures in two consecutive years? This is probably a more exclusive club ...

... [edited on Feb 13 - see above for complete list] ...

Ward Bond has been in three. It Happened One Night, You Can't Take it With You and Gone With the Wind.

But he deserves extra special mention, because he's been in THIRTEEN Oscar nominated films. They include Arrowsmith, Lady for a Day, The Informer, Dead End, The Grapes of Wrath, Seargent York, The Maltese Falcon, It's a Wonderful Life, The Quiet Man and Mister Roberts. I bet that's a record. It helps to have a good working relationship with John Ford.

This may have come up before, but I can't find it. I was curious as to what actor has the distinction to be in the most Best Picture winners. I did a little research, but I am sure I missed some.
