I don't recall seeing this post before. Very entertaining reading.

I can only lay claim to Tilda Swinton but I have seen Jane Campion, Kidman & Gerard Depardieu. And Jane Fonda.

I can only claim one person: Patricia Clarkson, who I spoke to when she called Continental Airlines to make a reservation to fly to Houston. This was before she'd achieved her late 90s, early 00s fame, and she was stunned that I recognized her (during my tenure at CO, I also spoke to Shelley Duvall and George Lazenby; I won't mention the crew member who spoke disparagingly about a certain Ethan Hawke).

After Garbo died, her niece gained possession of her apartment at River House in New York City. She hired a friend of mine who paints murals and faux designs ,and he invited me over to see her place. Once there, I couldn't resist sitting on Queen Christina's throne.

I’ve never really met any, but I’ve seen some in person, all of them were guests at the Jerusalem film festival – Oliver Stone, Peter Weir, Terrence Malick, Elia Kazan – it was a few years before he died, and he looked quite funny, this ultimate old American tourist, walking down a Jerusalem street in his white Bermuda shorts and snickers.

But the most joyful encounter occurred in 1984, when Jeanne Moreau came with a documentary she made about Lillian Gish, which was shown as a part of a double feature with Broken Blossoms. Seeing Moreau was a huge thrill, but having the privilege of Gish herself passing by, one foot away from me – she was ninety (although still officially 87), extremely light on her feet, very beautiful (and surprisingly tall) in a lovely blue chiffon dress - that was the highlight of my life as a moviegoer.

Although I did not technically meet Ethan Hawke in the sense of exchanging words, our eyes met, and it was magical.

I didn't meet her, but I did sit on Greta Garbo's toilet.

Damien,

You really made my morning. Enjoyed this post. What a pity we could not meet up in New York in 2003!!

Wonder if Ethan will respond to my request for an autograph as he is on Broadway?

By the way where did you match ass prints with Garbo?

Considering the movie you're in, you're just lucky you didn't have to audition naked.

People I have actually exchanged words with (albeit however brief), compared to the many who I have seen at Stage Doors/on the streets

Javier Fesser (Short Nominee - Binta and the Great Idea)
Joel Grey
Sejong Park (Short Nominee - Birthday Boy)
Kevin Spacey

One of my biggest regrets was that I was in the lobby of a theatre once and Robert Altman was standing five feet from me...wish I had gone over to him and told him how much I loved his work and it meant to me.

I also have an aunt who won an Emmy award...the only major entertainment award I have gotten to hold:)

I almost met Fernando Meirelles just before he got his Oscar nomination for City of God. He came here during the CineManila Film Festival where he gave a talk. The schedule changed so much that I missed it when it finally happened. :(
