I would rather have Dave Letterman co-host with Chris Rock than let Kevin Spacey anywhere near the Oscars as a host.

I say bring Hugh Jackman back.

I like Kevin Spacey. These days his work has been negligible, but in the Usual Suspects—Seven—L.A. Confidential—American Beauty era (heck, I'd even throw in A Bug's Life for kicks), I thought he turned out a number of commanding, genuinely thrilling performances.

But there's a smugness to his persona which, although it worked very well for his key '90's roles, seems unfit for an award show host. I'm with Penelope -- a Spacey-hosted Oscars doesn't seem like it would be particularly entertaining.

My current vote for Oscar host: Tina Fey, who I find completely hilarious, charming, and gracious. And I think she'd be a genuinely popular choice, too.

Side note: I think a Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award should be given to whoever can hunt down Luise Rainer's Oscars and engrave them with the names of Carole Lombard and Irene Dunne instead.

A more boring host I can't imagine.

Has a two-time Oscar winner ever fallen so far so quickly? (Louise Rainer, I guess.) It's been downhill ever since Oscar night 2000.

Good idea?

From the IMDb:

Spacey Launches Internet Campaign To Host Oscars
14 May 2009 6:35 PM, PDT

Kevin Spacey is considering starting an Internet campaign to land the job of hosting the 2010 Academy Awards.

The actor has a great relationship with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, having scooped statuettes for The Usual Suspects and American Beauty, and now he wants to take over from fellow actor Hugh Jackman as the host of the 82nd Awards.

Spacey says. "I'd love to host the Oscars. We can start a campaign on Twitter right now."
