Halle Berry made a big deal how "doors were opened" for black performers for her win as Best Actress. But what about other ethnic minorities? Black actors and actresses have been nominated more times than all the other ethnicities COMBINED (though the winner ratio is the same: 8 wins divided among 7 performers). There's still a lot of work to be done in terms of getting good roles for minority performers. Here's a list of non-black ethnic minority performers who earned Oscar nominations. This list includes half-breeds since Halle Berry is half-white and considers herself black. Let me know if I'm missing anyone out (* indicates winner; + indicates half-white):

Asians/Arabs/Pacific Islanders:
F. Murray Abraham+, Amadeus*
Yul Brynner+, The King and I*
Sesue Hayakawa, The Bridge on the River Kwai
Ben Kingsley+, Gandhi*; Bugsy; Sexy Beast
Mako, The Sand Pebbles
Noriyuki "Pat" Morita, The Karate Kid
Haing S. Ngor, The Killing Fields*
Merle Oberon+, The Dark Angel
Omar Sharif, Lawrence of Arabia
Miyoshi Umeki, Sayonara*

Latinos/Hispanics:
Norma Aleandro, Gaby: A True Story
Benicio Del Toro, Traffic*
Andy Garcia, The Godfather Part III
Salma Hayek, Frida
Katy Jurado, Broken Lance
Rita Moreno, West Side Story*
Fernanda Montenegro, Central Station
Edward James Olmos, Stand and Deliver
Rosie Perez, Fearless
Anthony Quinn, Viva Zapata*; Lust for Life*; Wild is the Wind; Zorba the Greek

Native Americans:
Chief Dan George, Little Big Man
Graham Greene, Dances with Wolves
