The Preferential Ballot

Post by anonymous1980 »

I'm surprised no one has brought this up yet. Well, now we've had more than 10 years worth of Best Picture winners determined by the preferential ballot which leads me to wonder: Which ones would've still won if the winner was determined by a straight up majority and which ones actually benefited from the preferential ballot? Here's what I think:

Would've won regardless:
The Hurt Locker
The King's Speech
The Artist
Argo
Birdman (or the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)
The Shape of Water
Parasite

Benefited from the preferential ballot:
Spotlight
Moonlight

Question marks (I can see arguments for either):
12 Years a Slave
Green Book

Any thoughts on this?
