I counted our ballots according to the preferential ballot system and our winner is Nomadland with The Father as the runner-up.

I'm not too excited about any of these films, but on the other hand, I didn't really dislike anything either. Considering how much the Coronavirus has messed up things, I feared it could be worse.

1. Minari
2. Nomadland
3. The Father
4. Promising Young Woman
5. Judas and the Black Messiah
6. The Trial of the Chicago 7
7. Mank
8. Sound of Metal

8. Mank

An odd year where I absolutely love 5 of these films, really like another 2, and only have little patience for one nominee (Mank).

Well, I didn't get around to rewatching Nomadland like I had hoped. I'm sure it'll lift up. I did revisit Judas and the Black Messiah, Mank, Promising Young Woman, and The Trial of the Chicago 7 and my preferential ballot at this point is what I'd prefer not to win. I'd prefer The Trial of the Chicago 7 and Mank go bust.

1. Judas and the Black Messiah
2. Promising Young Woman
3. Minari
4. The Father
5. Nomadland
6. Sound of Metal
7. Mank
8. The Trial of the Chicago 7

Here’s what my Best Picture ballot would look like now that I’ve seen all 8 nominees:

1. Judas and the Black Messiah
2. The Father
3. Promising Young Woman
4. Minari
5. Nomadland
6. Sound of Metal
7. The Trial of the Chicago 7
8. Mank

Some of these choices were pretty close, though. The only really clear ones for me were first and last.

Have to catch The Father, and then I can vote. I've never been this far ahead of the game on the Oscar nominees.
