It was obvious that they added Finney to the BAFTA montage, but I wouldn't have expected to see him show up first.

I kept thinking who could possibly be bigger than Finney to show up last, having forgotten about Reynolds.

Oscar, though, nominated Finney five times and Reynolds once. One would think AMPAS would give him a place of honor as well, either first or last, but considering the mindset running this year's Oscars, Stan Lee might be more likely to be so honored considering that the audience they're trying to attract knows him a lot better than either Finney or Reynolds.

My criteria for nearly picking Albert Finney, but I decided to go full Populist.
I was actually wondering who sets the terms of the In Memoriam (i.e., puts the faces in order). It seems to me an objective ruling would put Albert Finney in the position of prominence. But if these producers make the call, given their naked "we must appeal to the masses" agenda, it would be Reynolds all the way.

(BAFTA had Reynolds last, but that came only 48 hours or so after Finney's death, and the way Finney appeared first made it appear that the whole thing had been set/orchestrated, and they threw Finney in after the fact.)

Maybe Precious is secretly hoping for a win by Richard E. Grant.
That along with a few other surprises would be most pleasant.

Good catch Magilla but I have to admit I did spot my Green Book error earlier than your post when I was looking at the sight on my iPhone and noticed Greg had selected 'none' and was wondering where did he think Green Book was going to win and I then realised I'd made a mistake  and my response also should have been 'none'. Simply haven't been at my laptop all day to update.

By the way, this time for the three short categories I was lazy and just picked the titles that grabbed me the most. I wonder how many voting members of the Academy did the same.

Oscar Predictions Contest

Post by anonymous1980 »

Here are the rules just in case you guys forgot them:

01. Predict the winners all 24 categories.

02. You can predict one winner and one OPTIONAL runner-up.

03. A correct prediction with a runner-up gets 2 points, a correct runner-up gets 1 point and a correct prediction with no runner-up gets 3 points.

04. If three or less people correctly predict a category, they will get DOUBLE the points (including runner-up predictions). If you're the ONLY one to correctly predict a category, you get TRIPLE the points. (NOTE: This rule is also applicable to the bonus tie-breaker questions as well)

05. Highest score wins!

06. Deadline for entries/changes would be the start of the show.

OPTIONAL BONUS TIE BREAKER POINTS!

01. Who will be the last person in the In Memoriam montage? (three points)

02. Which Best Picture nominees will go home empty-handed? (NOTE: Since I think this question is gonna be difficult this year, I'm gonna do one point for each correct answer but if you get it exactly right, it will be TRIPLE POINTS. If the correct answer is "none", you will get three points, double if three or less predicted it, triple if you're the only one)
