I don’t think Lucas Hedges is “in the club” enough at this point to get that honor. They should go for a recent Best Actor winner or maybe someone unimpeachable like Tom Hanks.

Getting back to the original question, though, I think the ideal substitute for Casey Affleck would be his Manchester by the Sea co-star and co-nominee Lucas Hedges, who would almost certainly be presenting the Best Actress award to either his on-screen mother in one film or his on-screen girlfriend in another - either Frances McDormand or Saoirse Ronan, of course.

Not that I disagree with James Franco being removed from the cover of Vanity Fair, but would this have happened a year ago?

Are there any A-list actors who are safe any more? Maybe all awards shows should go the way of the SAG awards and use guys only to introduce clips so they don't have to interface with possible female winners who might be offended by something they heard about someone and make a scene. Either that or have men only present awards in which all the nominees are male. It's gotten ridiculous.

Couldn't agree more Magilla. I do think the Academy should move to male presenting to male/female presenting to female in the acting categories. In the cases where someone is nominated the year after they have won, they can switch with the lead/supporting actor/actress.

Kind of a bummer...such a rare honor and for a performance so richly deserved, in my opinion. Maybe it is for the best, but unless Jimmy took it upon himself to "go there" during introduction...sure seems like it would have come and gone damn quickly and onto a likely powerful speech.

Why on earth would she do such a thing? Aren't you confusing her with the characters she plays?

Casey Affleck won't be presenting Best Actress this year. Any thoughts on who they bring in to present? Tom Hanks? Denzel? Jeff Bridges? Sidney Poitier, the earliest living winner, would be cool.
Since he's nominated this year anyway, why not Christopher Plummer?

Especially considering who the women nominated are. I'm pretty sure they all would think he's scummy, especially the likely winner.

Probably for the best. I don’t see any upside for him to presenting — of all categories — Best Actress this year.
