Denzel also becomes, I believe, the 11th person to direct himself to an Oscar Nomination.

Yes, I think so. Quincy Jones and sound mixer Willie Burton each had seven nominations (Jones also had a Hersholt). I think quite a lot of records concerning black filmmakers was broken this year.

I forgot about Nelson, who unlike O'Connell, already has 2 Oscars.

Pitt was not one of the nominated producers for Moonlight (if you remember, not everyone listed gets a nomination now. Only the most involved.)

He also didn't get one for Selma...his producing nominations are for Moneyball, Tree of Life, 12 Years, and The Big Short.

Brad Pitt also produced "Moonlight" and the other 3 nominated films. Was he not nominated 4 years in a row too?

Being nominated 45 years after he was nominated for The Last Picture Show, Jeff Bridges moves to #3 on the list of actors who were nominated over the longest period of time. Only Hepburn (48) and Arkin (46) are ahead of him, and at 67 he, hopefully, has many years to move way up the list.

"Fences" is only the 2nd Best Picture nominee that Denzel Washington has appeared in. The other one was "A Soldier's Story" back in 1984.
