After the droids and the minions, I can't take it anymore. I'm boycotting. Good night...

If that joke was funny, it was only because Angela Basset made it funny. And it wasn't funny. They're overcompensating.

Maybe I should chalk this up as "I'm coming down with something", but I don't remember the Academy Awards broadcasts being so LOUD before. Maybe it's the acoustics, maybe it's all this "Mad Maxing" going on, maybe it's just me. The commercials alone are oppressive! Plus, the cinematography presentation was atrocious. There was no need for the telecast to swoop it's own camera around while showing (and blocking) the clips. Nauseating.

Christ, now we've got the sound mixing and editing presentations. I'm bailing. Hollywood is too fucking loud. Enjoy.

One more thing. Maybe I'm just not very observant, but I never noticed before how many commercials during the Academy Awards... are about the Academy Awards!

I don't think i've ever seen a show go from 100 mph to 0 so quickly.

When Chris Rock uses his entire monologue to take on AMPAS and the protestors... okay, maybe it's a little long, and tastes will differ whether every single joke worked... doesn't matter. It's a bold, ballsy maneuver, and a milestone Oscar moment just for its mere existence.

But when AMPAS lets Hollywood skewer itself - which it did just 10 minutes later, with the magic of unfunny film clips - it ruins everything that came before and then some. Of course, the audience howled at these clips whereas before they were only nervously laughing.

And Chris Rock then destroys his own goodwill by mentioning "Carol" once, reducing it to a mere "girl-on-girl" punchline.

In the same article at Variety where I got that, I actually got to correct Kris Tapley who said Production Design was née Art Direction...

They are REALLY having fun with the OscarsSoWhite controversy. Good to see Tracey Morgan making funny.

This is the first time in memory that the screenplay awards were presented first. Smart move considering the predictability of the winners, but the idea of having the winners' thank-yous appear on screen was ignored from the outset and will probably continue that way all night.
They did this in the 80s - start with the written word - then rest of awards in sequence - looks like they will do so again this year
