Inarritu, Linklater and Anderson are all nominated against each other in Picture, Director and Screenplay. Has this ever happened? I don't think so.

In the Best Actor category, Eddie Redmayne is nominated for playing a character (Stephen Hawking) who was also portrayed by co-nominee Benedict Cumberbatch in a 2004 BBC TV movie called Hawking.

Has this ever happened before, where within the same category, two nominees have a connection to the same role?

Wrong! Question 7 (1961) and Macbeth (1971) also failed to make the grade with Oscar voters.

The Grand Budapest Hotel has the earliest release date of any Picture nominee since The Silence of the Lambs 23 years ago

First time since 1939 that National Board of Review best picture winner receives 0 nominations

Fourth year in a row that a nominated actor is also nominated for best picture

First time a best actress nominee (Whitherspoon) "produced" another best actress nominee (Pike)

This pretty much goes without saying, but with 19 nominations, Meryl Streep beats her own record for most Oscar nominations by a performer for acting, male or female.

We usually track these sorts of things here. I'll start with a couple:

Bennett Miller becomes first post-expansion director with no Best Picture nod. He also gets a picture or director nomination for his first three films.

Robert Duvall is oldest male actor ever nominated.

Bradley Cooper first man in 13 years to get back-to-back-to-back acting nominations (11 years for females)

Selma first Best Picture nominee with only a tech nomination since the 1950s.
