Looks like I bit the big one. 51 was my total (thanks to sticking to the belief that the Academy wouldn't love a film like Birdman). Linklater will win an Oscar for his next screenplay and the next brilliant film Wes Anderson does will go all the way.

Speaking of hunches, I have a weird feeling that Unbroken wins one award tonight, and Foxcatcher takes Makeup. I just couldnt put them in my predix.

Of course, remember last year, when Darlene Love got it started, and by the end of the night they were standing for damn near anyone (both screenwriters got s.o.'s, which I doubt anyone envisioned). This doesn't seem like that kind of year (I've been surprised at the lack of standing o's for Julianne at the prelims), but who knows. (Though I'd almost bet on Harris' opening number leading irresistably into one)

By the way: may I say it's nice to see several people turn up in this thread who I didn't realize were still with us. Glad you dropped in.

It's hard to gauge the standing ovations. I don't know that any of the winners will receive one just for winning though one or two may receive one for a rousing speech. A surprise presenter or an acknowledged special guest in the audience may receive one. The opening number and a particularly well staged subsequent number may receive one. Or maybe, just maybe, with no surprise winners, presenters or guest in the audience no one will receive a standing ovation other than NPH after his opening number.
