I do not have time to do this, but there must be something we are missing here. Yes, we can always blame the precursors, but in a few minutes I expect to see some out of nowhere choices. Miles Teller for Leading Actor? I do not know, even something NO ONE has foreseen... That would be great. Last year I think it was Wes who nicely predicted Bale taking a spot in the overcrowded Lead Actor category, a thing very few of us saw coming. Hopefully the surprises are good more than disappointing.

I'm totally in sync with flipp's choices. However, I think Streep will miss out and Jessica Chastain will take the 5th spot. In Best Actress the 5th spot will be either Cotillard or more likely Felicity Jones. And Duvall and Riz will battle for the 5th spot. Now that Eastwood is up for the DGA, Cooper and he will both get Oscar nods.

I'm just doing Top 6 as well. It's the Oscars, so I'm prepared to see a couple surprises.

BEST PICTURE
American Sniper
Birdman
Boyhood
Foxcatcher
The Grand Budapest Hotel
The Imitation Game
Nightcrawler
The Theory of Everything
Whiplash

BEST DIRECTOR
Clint Eastwood, American Sniper
Alejandro G. Iñarritu, Birdman
Richard Linklater, Boyhood
Wes Anderson, The Grand Budapest Hotel
Damien Chazelle, Whiplash

BEST ACTOR
Bradley Cooper, American Sniper
Benedict Cumberbatch, The Imitation Game
Jake Gyllenhaal, Nightcrawler
Michael Keaton Birdman
Eddie Redmayne The Theory of Everything

Bradley Cooper is quickly becoming a perennial Academy favorite and the love of American Sniper might tug him along for a third consecutive nomination. Steve Carell, David Oyelowo or a surprise Timothy Spall could pop up here in his place.

BEST ACTRESS
Amy Adams, Big Eyes
Marion Cotillard, Two Days, One Night
Julianne Moore, Still Alice
Rosamund Pike, Gone Girl
Reese Whitherspoon, Wild

Having just watched Big Eyes last night, I have to say that Amy Adams is really quite good in it. I've never bought the love for Felicity Jones and think she'll miss out on a nomination. And I've always felt that Cotillard would place here for one of her two performances this year.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR
Riz Ahmed, Nightcrawler
Ethan Hawke, Boyhood
Edward Norton, Birdman
Mark Ruffalo, Foxcatcher
J.K. Simmons, Whiplash

If any of the acting races is going to yield a total WTF dark horse nominee, this is going to be it. That phantom fifth spot has been open for the taking for quite some time now and I think the love of Nightcrawler could push Ahmed's fantastic performance to the front of the pack. Not seeing Robert Duvall making it here for a movie no one especially liked.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Patricia Arquette, Boyhood
Keira Knightley, The Imitation Game
Renee Russo, Nightcrawler
Emma Stone, Birdman
Meryl Streep, Into the Woods

Never a good idea to bet against a Streep nomination. Remember last year?
"The mantle of spinsterhood was definitely in her shoulders. She was twenty five and looked it."

-Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
