I did think about that yesterday! Until yesterday, Interiors was also the last time that a Woody Allen film garnered both Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress nominations (for Page and Stapleton).

Chris Sanders and Hayao Miyazaki each received their third nomination for Best Animated Feature, the most in that category (and an impressive feat for a category only a dozen years old).

Martin Scorsese's films have now received 80 nominations, which keeps him at third all time (and 41 nominations out of second).

Besides Lord of the Rings (which because it was made as one film is a little different), Before Midnight is the first post-sequel (third or more film in a series) to receive a writing nomination.

First Cambodian film (The Missing Picture) nominated in the Foreign Language Film Category.

A Finnish film received a nomination for Best Live Action Short Film, the first ever Finnish nomination outside of (a single nomination in) Foreign Language category.

It's also the biggest surprise for me this year.

Rachel Winter co-produced Dallas Buyers Club. Her husband is Terence Winter, TWOWS's writer. They both are now Academy Awards nominees, getting in the select list of married couples to receive Oscar nods in the same year.

Interesting note, David O. Russell directed four actors to nominations today, all of whom he had previously directed to nominations (Adams and Bale for The Fighter, Cooper and Lawrence for Silver Linings).

Also, Martin Scorsese has now directed 22 Oscar nominated performances, to put him third on the all-time list (after Wyler and Kazan). Woody Allen has now directed 18, which puts him in a tie for 6th place (with Lumet, Nichols and George Stevens).

Jennifer Lawrence is the only winner from last year with a chance at a repeat win

I don't know where the thread is, but American Hustle has 6 Oscar nominees in its cast, and American Gangster adds a 6th (Chiwetel Ejiofor).

5 out of Alexander Payne's 6 films have gotten at least one Oscar nomination. This is also his third consecutive Best Director nomination. I am now more certain than ever that if Alexander Payne makes a movie, it will be nominated for Best Picture and possibly Best Director.

Every time Alexander Payne is nominated for best director, Martin Scorsese is also nominated

Oops – the fact the Ladd was nominated twice for costarring with her got me mixes up. Anyway, she is still the only Oscar nominated actress to have two multiply nominated actors for parents. It’s time for the Benning-Beatys and the Jolie-Pitts to try and challenge her. (it’s a pity Liegh and Olivier didn't have any offsping).

Thank God Streep managed to get in. Ok, based on merit she shouldn’t have, but for trivia sake, it’s a pure blessing.

Her record 18th nomination is a key factor in another record – the 5 nominees in the best actress category have 38 nominations between them.

The average age of these 5 actresses is 55. Another record.

Streep and Dern were both nominated back in ’78 too. This 35 year gap is second only to the Hepburn/Fonda record of 42 years. Interestingly, in both cases these were the male thespians' only nominations while the ladies set records for most nominations with their corresponding nods.
