I'm not so sure about that. I checked the Eddies' history, and they have been pretty reliable in the past (9/10, missing only The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and one tie award to boost the odds in 2006).

Furthermore, in spite of the greater presence of Special Effects-driven films in other categories during the past decade (Best Cinematography, in particular), no such film has actually won the editing category since The Return of the King - in spite of plenty of strong contenders in recent years.

I was thinking about starting this one -- because I genuinely think this category has four pretty legitimately possible winners -- but I'll hold off if you want to take it.

So, how reliable are the Eddies as a precursor? Could Captain Phillips edge out Gravity in the Oscars as well? Or is this just a Guild thing?
