Great to see Alain Guiraudie top this list. Finally getting the attention he deserves.

Not really. CdC is, after all, the magazine that routinely ranks Brian De Palma's latest films at the top of the list. (And I say that as a measure of my respect, obviously.)Mister Tee wrote:Can I assume this is based on European release date, and 12 Years a Slave was ineligible? Because 12 Years was shown to most critics the same time as Gravity, and it would be somewhat shocking if Gravity were held in such higher esteem.
EDIT: That said, McQueen's Hunger figured into their 2008 top 10 list. But take special note of their #1 choice that year.
01. Redacted (Brian De Palma)
02. Juventude Em Marcha (Pedro Costa)
03. Cloverfield (Matt Reeves)
04. No Country for Old Men (Joel & Ethan Coen)
05. Two Lovers (James Gray)
06. Waltz With Bashir (Ari Folman)
07. Dernier maquis (Rabah Ameur-Zaïmeche)
08. Hunger (Steve McQueen)
09. A Short Film About the Indio Nacional (Raya Martin)
10. De la guerre (Bertrand Bonello)

Since Lincoln's on the list, I assume they are on a different release scheduled. I'd assume also that this is based on the French release window. 12 Years a Slave isn't scheduled to open in France until January 22.

Spring Breakers surprises me.
