"The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" (I refuse to shorten the title, it is just that damn great of a title) is the best film of the year.

Away From Her. A hauntingly beautiful film.

I don't know if I call 'The Assassination of Jesse James' an exclusion seeing as it was obviously not going to get in but I will vote for it over 'Diving Bell' which was a genuine exclusion.

'Zodiac' is the most technologically ground-breaking film of the year. 'Into the Wild' is an indulgent fave. And 'I'm Not There' is my favorite party. But 'The Assassination of Jesse James...' is the spooky swan song to pulp fiction and Hello to Dreiser that signified the twentieth century. It never had a chance. At nomination or at the box office. Hopefully, two shocking Oscar wins will change that.
