And Mad Men won the television award! :) So well deserved.

The strange thing about No Country's nomination is that American Gangster, which is set less than a decade before No Country, was nominated in the period category.

How the hell is No Country For Old Men a contemporary film? It's set in 1980 (although its period detail is pretty much non-existent). It's akin to calling Raging Bull contemporary in the year it was released, 1980.

The ADG has phoned in their winners. The period film winner seems an attempt to predict the Oscar winner for Best Picture, since they often went for the non-modern films, which have lately been winning awards.

What's interesting is that There Will Be Blood won the Period design award, which certainly improves its Oscar chances in that category.

Period Art Direction: There Will Be Blood
Fantasy Art Direction: The Golden Compass
Contemporary Art Direction: No Country for Old Men
