I knew it was a strange year.

Biggest shocks:

- Tommy Lee Jones, In the Valley of Elah for Best Actor.
- Laura Linney making it in Best Actress
- Jason Reitman making it in Best Director
- Atonement got in Best Picture.
- Into the Wild got shut out of the major categories (save for Hal Holbrook).

Wow, if only I didn't get into the Into the Wild hype, I would have still kept Jason Reitman as a director prediciton and Sarah Polley in the Adapted Screenplay catagory. I knew that Into the Wild wouldn't get into to Best Picture, I just had that feeling.

I feel like vomiting all over Cate Blanchett right now.

Very upset about The Simpsons - the Rat movie got screenplay as well, which vexes me.

Happy for Laura Linney and Sarah Polley, and relieved that Holbrook made it - but the slim support for Into the Wild (not even best song?) suggests his chances of toppling Bardem are slim.

Do we know the Film Editing nominees yet?

Jason Reitman certainly stands well in the way of the Director category being counted as one of the all-time greats.

Ruby Dee! Sarah Polley! Casey Affleck! Yay! And little love for Sweeney Todd! (This is the first year I can remember when I haven't been pissed off about anything.)

Add Angelina Jolie to that list of surprising snubs. Still kind of surprised that Jolie had less support for a nomination than Blanchett in that category.

But not enough, Pen. No Director nomination. It's out as Best Picture.
Oh, I know, but to see it nominated when it had been completely written off is vindication enough.

Yeah, very unhappy about The Simpsons movie being snubbed.

Happy for Sarah Polley, though.

Big Snubs:

Into the Wild (no Supporting Actress, Director, Picture or Adapted Screenplay)
The Simpsons Movie (TV is not loved)

Pleasant Surprises:

Away from Her got into Adapted Screenplay

Worst News:

Johnny Depp hams up an Oscar-nominated performance. One of the worst ever nominated.

For me, the biggest surprise was actually in the Animated Film category, with Surf's Up replacing The Simpson's Movie.

News of the love for Into the Wild was greatly exaggerated:)
