I like Sylvia Syms, but I doubt the role of the Queen Mother will be much of a stretch for any actress. Hobble about a bit, not say very much, occasional glass of gin... yep, that's her 101 years service to the British Empire summed up.

I'm wondering if Sylvia Syms might slip in as a best supporting actress nominee for The Queen in which she plays the Queen Mum.

Syms has had a long career in British films, winning three BAFTA nominations early in her career and most recently playing the Shelley Winters role in the TV remake of The Poseidon Adventure. The Queen Mum was long the beloved member of the British Royal Family and getting to play her in her 90s seems like a plum role for any actress. Could be a Gloria Stuart style renaissance for Syms.

I'm also glad to see The History Boys included in your updated list.

Just a few other comments;

You should take out The Road to Guantanamo. Good as the film is the Academy are not going to nominate it for anything. Winterbottom will hopefully receive a director nomination from the Academy sometime in the future but it won't be for this.

You should also consider Alan Arkin for Little Miss Sunshine ahead of Carrell & Kinnear. If anyone from the cast is going to receive a nomination it will be veteran Arkin, who gets the better lines.

Very happy to see Fernanda Montenegro on your list. She's wonderful in Casa de Areja and certainly deserves a nomination - she plays three roles, and some of them at different ages as well. A critics award or two could easily propel her to a nomination.

I like your inclusion of The History Boys in several major categories - I have a very good feeling about this one. But if you are predicting Griffiths and de la Tour for nominations, I would expect to see Samuel Barnett as a supporting actor contender. He received great acclaim in the West End production and if the movie goes over big, could well be a contender.

I still strongly disagree with visual fx... I think Pirates and Superman will definitely make it, but not sure bout the third one... eragon?? are u kiddin me? the fountain? i don't think so.. x-men? honestly, fx were not excellent at all...

And i also think that Hans Zimmer (The Da Vinci Code) should be considered!

Well, after about a month and some changes from the Academy, I have updated my predictions. I'll probably only do this once a month. There aren't a lot of changes but there are a few.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions from previously. Many were implemented others were not.
