You can usually find at least one, but usually only one, worthwhile candidate in most categories, as is almost always the case with awards...
BEST MOVIE
"The 40-Year-Old Virgin" (alright, haven't watched the whole thing, but it's certainly preferable to the only other one I've watched, Batman: Back To Dour)
BEST PERFORMANCE
Rachel McAdams - "Red Eye"
BEST COMEDIC PERFORMANCE
Tyler Perry - "Madea's Family Reunion" (for the ludicrosity factor)
BEST ON-SCREEN TEAM
Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Seth Rogen & Romany Malco - "The 40-Year-Old Virgin"
BEST VILLAIN
Tilda Swinton - "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" (I don't get Damien's love for this one, but Tilda is fantastic -- first time I've liked her)
BREAKTHROUGH PERFORMANCE
haven't seen 'em
BEST HERO
don't much care
SEXIEST PERFORMANCE
Rob Schneider - "Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo" (since I can't choose Ryan Reynolds, John Leguizamo, Stephen Chow or Bow Wow's little friend Brandon T. Jackson...)
BEST FIGHT
Stephen Chow vs. Axe Gang - "Kung Fu Hustle" (too bad they couldn't squeeze the entire running time of Crash in here)
BEST KISS
Jake Gyllenhaal & Heath Ledger - "Brokeback Mountain"
BEST FRIGHTENED PERFORMANCE
Dakota Fanning - "War of the Worlds" (will wonders never cease?)

But geisha girls WERE supposed to be sexy, or at least alluring.
I understand the point you're trying to make, that there are some anachronisms we are supposed to reject in this day and age. But if otherwise sensible, progressive, level-headed men find geishas sexy, what can you do?

Yes, yes, the nomination for Rob Schneider is beyond gross. But it's sort of hilarious. I know I would have gotten a big kick out of nominating him.
Ziyi Zhang in Memoirs of a Geisha was about as sexy as a wooden board. But I think the nomination's uncomfortable racial aspect is what's really disturbing. Americans love their Geisha Girls!
For kicks, my list in this category would be Maria Bello in A History of Violence, Jake Gyllenhaal in Jarhead, Scarlett Johansson in Match Point, Alessandro Nivola in Junebug, and Ziyi Zhang . . . in 2046.

Yeah, what's up with that? They only nominate ONE guy and it's Rob Schneider???? Are there no gay men or str8 women on the nominating committee???Aceisgreat wrote:The Original BJ wrote:Most disturbing nomination: Zhang Ziyi for Sexiest Performance for Memoirs of a Geisha. Surely you mean Rob Schneider?

Ian McDiarmid should've been up for Best Villain instead of Hayden Christensen. Kong vs. the Planes? Why not Kong vs. the T-rexes?
Surely you mean Rob Schneider?

The notables:
4 of 6 Best Performance nominees were Oscar nominees. I actually think that lineup is surprisingly classy, with the other two performances quite strong within their genres.
The best kiss nod for Heath and Jake is awesome. (But how could anyone pick Gyllenhaal for Best Performance over Ledger???)
Most disturbing nomination: Zhang Ziyi for Sexiest Performance for Memoirs of a Geisha. Unsettling on so many levels . . .
