Re: New Developments III
Apparently, Barbara Lee's district is safe for Dems, but Katie Porter's is a swing district so it could be a problem. The strategists aren't too worried about the "uncommitted" protest votes against Biden over Gaza. They expect the majority of those folks to vote for him in the general - t...

Re: Categories One-by-One: Leading Actor
Nobody does self-promotion more than Bradley Cooper. Maybe if he learns to let the work speak for itself, he'll have a real chance at winning an Oscar someday, but that day won't be this Sunday. Colman Domingo gave an impassioned performance in Rustin, but he's lucky just to have been nominated for ...

Re: Categories One-by-One: Adapted Screenplay
American Fiction definitely checks off the Conceptually Bold box that has won a fair number of screenwriting Oscars of late (though far more typically on the original side), plus it offsets any sense of being too-new-fangled with the domestic drama sections, that might win over more traditional vot...

I can see Jennifer Lawence presenting Carey Mulligan gushing about how great that it was working with Bradley Cooper on the film that she won her Oscar for.

When Mark Ronson (co-writer of "I'm Just Ken") won his first Oscar for co-writing "Shallow" from A Star Is Born he wasn't yet Meryl Streep's son-in-law. If he wins for "I'm Just Ken" will he officially become the first son-in-law of an Oscar winning actress to win one o...

Re: Ceremony Details
If it gets more big names on stage, I'm all for it. There's no reason they can't do both the presentation and a clip of the performance so that audience members who haven't seen the work can get a glimpse of it. It's better they do that than spend their moment in the spotlight before they open the e...

Re: SAG Thoughts/Winners to be Added
Cillian Murphy was very good in Oppenheimer but it was the role. Any actor who had been cast would likely have done as well. The performances that it would be hard to find another actor to have done as well with were those of Paul Giamatti in The Holdovers and Jeffrey Wright in American Fiction . I ...

I would expect this to be one of the ones Oppenheimer gets to add to its haul.

Re: Categories One-by-One: Adapted Screenplay
My pick would be American Fiction which, although it is an adaptation, is one of the most exhilaratingly original pieces of work we've seen on the screen in some time, spoiled only by that ridiculous triple ending but not so much so that it can't be ignored. Cord Jefferson also won the Independent S...

Big Magilla wrote You left out Lead Performance: Jeffrey Wright, American Fiction Yeah, must have missed that. Not a great week for Giamatti. Giamatti wasn't nominated. The Holdovers did well, winning three of the four categories it was nominated for but losing adapted screenplay to American Fictio...
