The principal cast (Jamie Foxx, Beyonce, Eddie Murphy and "the American Idol contestant who took Oprah's breath away") are on Oprah today. Jennifer Hudson was a class act. Such poise and unassuming glamour; she really made a wonderful impression on Oprah today and she looked gorgeous to b...

Man this movie looks dire. It is. In fact, I'd say that the penultimate section of the movie is so dire and so hilariously, almost depressingly, truthful and revealing of the Hollywood machine that it successfully bridges that fine line between tragedy and comedy which is what the very best comedy ...

Btw, having seen the trailer, Miller definitely looks like Factory Girl. Loved that scene where she was angry with some people at the dinner table. Would be nice to see her in the leading race as well cause it's currently really really boring at the moment. I agree, VanHelsing. She was fantastic in...

I've enjoyed some of your Best Picture reviews and agree with Magilla that they are very well-written. I've seen every single BP nominee so it's nice to read them. I wholeheartedly agree with your take on Cavalcade. Only occasionally do I tend check the Hopefuls page mainly because, in recent years...

Why is Jennifer Hudson a "lock," but Eddie Murphy merely "good"? Riding on months-long buzz and now post-screening fervor, Hudson has been the only consistent contender to show up on Oscar lists for Best Supporting Actress. She is an absolute lock for a nomination and looking li...

This is truly disgusting. O.J. must be really hard up for some money because this is low, folks. I realize that double jeopardy prevents him from being re-tried for the double murders, but doesn't this bring up a whole slew of civil ramifications, particularly his as-yet-unpaid civil settlement to ...

Every film buff knows that Claudette Colbert was first offered the role of Margo Channing in All About Eve but had to bow out when she injured her back. The part was recast with Bette Davis who gave a memorable performance and made it her own. There is more than a passing resemblance between Claude...

I'm so angry that I missed this as it's one of those hard-to-locate and rarely-shown on television Best Actress contenders. Has anyone seen this in the fall/winter TCM schedule?

No offence Penelope & mashari, but Swank definitely deserves the crown for Boys Don't Cry IMHO. M$B is another case altogether. I agree with VanHelsing. Swank's win for Boys Don't Cry was one of the most well-deserved Oscars in years and one of the rare instances where they got it exactly right...

Apparently, Hudson gets a very special "... and introducing" credit screen. How many times has a performer with that kind of credit actually won the Oscar? Seems to be quite a few, if I recall correctly. These are almost all overwhelmingly enthusiastic reviews. Here's one person's review ...

Agree with Cam on Collette, who can be one of the best actresses around or (The Hours comes quickly and painfully to mind) one of the worst. What did you find so objectionable about Collette's performance in The Hours? I thought she played Kitty perfectly. With the right material, I find Collette q...

WTF is that look Anjelica Huston gives to the camera after Whoppi wins? Was she annoyed that Annette didn't win? It's weird.

True, but this year is different for reasons that both mashari and I have gone over: 1) B.O. smash; 2) best reviewed role in awhile; 3) DVD screeners to coincide with nomination time; 4) steady buzz since July; 5) She's Meryl (and, yes, that does still have an effect on voters).
