Red Lights (Cedric Kahn, 2004) 6/10 (maybe 7/10) Solid first half hour, terrible second half hour, great final forty-five minutes. But that second act was atrocious. What's wrong with the second act? I loved this movie from beginning to end. I didn't buy anything in it. In fact, it was so bad I nea...

Oscarguy, Ken Rudolph reported getting a postcard with the Slumdog Millionaire DVD stating he had to have it destroyed by March 30th, 2009. Did you get a similar card?

I always took British to mean someone from the British Isles, which means Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland and England, with the United Kingdom referring to all but Ireland, and Great Britain referring to Scotland, England and Wales. I have no problem with a black Bond, but it should defi...

Thanks Magilla I actually don't mind "I Need to Wake Up," but being pass-less, it goes. I also don't mind "Our Town" - it's an affably low-key work that plays pleasantly in the movie, but I don't remember anything about said movie anyway, so nope. So it's one of the Dreamgirls s...

Pick One : Replacing David Lean's (solid, if not necessarily award-worthy) work on A Passage to India with Jonathan Demme's thrilling work on Stop Making Sense . And I'm no fan of The Sixth Sense, either. Except of course for the car scene. The film contains a handful of moments like these that remind me that yes, despite not caring for the twist, it actually works. Shame, then, that Shyamalan has forgotten what makes his movies work. Hmmmm..... I don't mind Titanic , but it's not that impressive enough to warrant a pass. Which I don't have anyway. I haven't seen Take the High Ground or The Desert Rats . So it's between The Band Wagon and The Naked Spur . I enjoy the former, but giving a Peneloscar to an Anthony Mann western str...

I think this is the film I'm most looking forward to, actually (give or take Slumdog, which won't open here until the end of December).

Pick One : So, should I rescue Waterston or Finney? Like flipp mentioned in the other thread, his performance in The Dresser is better, but I don't think that takes away from Finney's work in Huston's flick (speaking of which - did Huston have the greatest final run there or what? I don't care for ...

1. Why is The Dark Knight only a smaller contender? I recall Mister Tee mentioning somewhere that the reason the Lord of the Rings films got nominated wasn't because the academy suddenly overcame their aversion to fantasy, but because of the elements that they were comfortable with (costume drama, ...

This falls under the category of handicapped-by-having-seen-the-film, but, though Rachel got some enthusiastic reviews, I think it'd be the flimsiest critics' award winner in many years. Flimsier then Pan's Labyrinth or United 93 ? I'm genuinely curious because, like you (and everyone, it seems), I...
