I've read speculation the reason France submitted The Taste Of Things for International Feature rather than Anatomy Of A Fall was Fall director Justine Triet attacked French President Emmanuel Macron during her Palme d'Or acceptance speech at Cannes.

My guess is, that if there were 10 nominations for both film and director, this year there would most likely be an exact matchup.

I've accepted that Cillian Murphy (who absolutely deserved his nom) will be passed over in favor of Giamatti. I think Murphy will win as part of a 9-award sweep for Oppenheimer -- Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay, Lead Actor, Supporting Actor, Original Score, Film Editing, Cinematography, and ...

Someone at another message board wrote that a lot of Academy members are on restrictive diets and wouldn't even want to watch a documentary about amazing food.
