This is a pretty outstanding lineup of winners. I'm torn between two very different nutjobs: Chris Cooper in Adaptation. and Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. Ultimately, I'm going with the latter.

1. Naomi Watts, Mulholland Drive
2. Thora Birch, Ghost World
3. Sissy Spacek, In the Bedroom
4. Maggie Cheung, In the Mood for Love
5. Emily Perkins, Ginger Snaps

...pretty open-and-shut for me. There is Sissy Spacek and then there are the other nominees.

I forgot Jane Lynch was in Julie & Julia. What did she do?

The Contender is as bad as Chocolat is innocuous. For such an outstanding year for leading female actors (Björk, Yeoh, Anderson) who could have conceivably grabbed a nomination, Allen and Binoche are especially disheartening. But Roberts, Linney, and Burstyn are outstanding. It's hard to begrudge R...

I've yet to see Bullock in The Blind Side, but I doubt her performance could be quite the mess that Halle Berry's is in Monster's Ball. I would venture so far as to call only Kate Winslet's performance the only one else that is actively bad whereas Theron's and Kidman's as doing nothing for me. But...

WOW! This is...not...a great list at all. Had Sissy Spacek or Julie Christie rightfully won, I'd be torn between them...but this? I can't begrudge Mirren, Roberts, or Swank their nominations but there were so many in their respective years in the running (or nominated alongside them!) that deserved...

I actually think Washington is very good. It's a great against-type performance that carries a strong piece of entertainment that unfortunately does not sustain itself. He deserved the Oscar far more than Russell Crowe that year. I actually think that more actors should win for what Washington did ...

OG: I almost think that Philip Seymour Hoffman deserves his Oscar for being so woefully miscast in Capote and yet coming close to pulling it off. This is NOT Truman Capote. He's a beefy, joyless blob, who is far better suited to supporting scene-stealing work in Boogie Nights and Charlie Wilson's W...

We're going to do this now. Although I think he's one of the best actors to have won this decade, I do not see anything special about Whitaker's two-note performance in The Last King of Scotland. There have been lots of Real Person Impersonations to have won, but Whitaker's is the most limited, fla...

If Bigelow was the second woman director to win the Oscar, we would just be talking about whether or not The Hurt Locker is overrated. At least Bigelow had the good taste to not mention that she is a woman while accepting the award because that has never been her MO.

BTW, love the name Aughties for the decade. Has there been a consensus as to what name we should give the decade?

I'll be honest, I haven't signed onto www.cinemasight.com that much. I check out your predictions and move on to http://uaadb.oscarguy.com. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate the work you guys have put into it. I will say that the entire time that you all were doing a category-by-category breakdo...

I've gotten very little positive feedback regarding my changes, I've been doing nothing but working on trying to make this site a success when it's quite clear it never will be and that I feel like there's very little point in me even trying anymore. The site looks pretty. We appreciate your dedica...

These are your Best Actor Winners of the Aughties! Which one is your favorite? I think several of these winners are pretty terrific.

I choose Sean Penn for Milk. I really do think he gives the best Oscar-winning Lead Actor of the decade.

But how was it the "best year"? Because she headlined Julie & Julia and It's Complicated. Well, technically I guess she co-starred but she was a major draw. Both of them brought in $325 million worldwide. Not many actresses do or have brought in that much worldwide. The difference is ...
