To be fair, I only finished Tolstoy and Friedman during that time, I started Karenina maybe a year ago and never got around to finishing it. Voila, broken leg and I read tons. Now with school, I can't do anything but read, even stuff not on the curriculum (like the Booker winners and in time Pamuk'...

I've been in the middle of a Booker Binge, if you will. School started a week ago, and that means books up the wazoo. Books I have finished since my last post: Leo Tolstoy - Anna Karenina Thomas L. Friedman - From Beirut to Jerusalem Shakespeare - As You Like It Malcolm Gladwell - Blink John Banvil...

The winner is....Kiran Desai. I guess maybe this is some sort of payback for her mother having been shut out three times. I look forward to reading it.

But I found their hysterics during a certain surprising scene near the end absolutely ruinous, dark joke or not. I'll assume you're referring to what I think you are: most of the audience was laughing during the entire finale, which maybe indicates their humours as blacker than mine. If you are ref...

That's a pretty good idea that has loads of previous evidence to make it valid, OG. People are tested all the time, even when the island is a "tabula rasa" for everyone (junkie Charlie, torturer Sayid, crippled Locke, con man Sawyer, fugitive Kate, etc.), but I think the revelation of you...

Anybody watch the premiere tonight? I was disappointed with the first half of the second season, but it picked up toward the end, and tonight's episode points to a promising new season. Any thoughts?

I avoided Friends like the plague, but I'm quite enjoying Matthew Perry's performance in Studio 60. He also did a great job with his guest role on the West Wing: he's a capable actor with the right material.

I personally speculated that He threw His napkin down in disgust like Uncle Rico did in Napoleon Dynamite.
It's just funny how similar these sects seem to the Islamic fanatics they don't tolerate. "We have the truth"?? Please, you don't have anything!

I really like it. The pilot was a bit smug, but if they are making an allusion to one of the handful of TV writers who can really be considered "genius", I say bring it on. The second episode is quite a bit better, and the show is structurally similar to West Wing (title logo, setup, cred...

I just recently bought the first season of it and I'm three episodes in: I am impressed. The look of the show is less polished than the Sopranos (or even Six Feet Under), but the writing and acting are high quality. I can't wait to get further into the story and see how immersing it really is.

Nice to see a hot artistic streak pays off in well-deserved commercial success. Of course, next week it will be Beyonce at number 1, then the Monster album of the year from JT.
