Any list that has Aladdin but not the Nightmare Before Christmas, and the Great Ziegfeld but not the Smiling Lieutenant, nor Hellzapoppin', is not worth another second of my time.

Didn't you get the memo? Best Picture nominees automatically become honorary American films.

I'm surprised they didn't put LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL on this list.

PS there's two films from the Phillipines at the upcomng San Francisco International Film Festival: the Blossoming of Maximo Oliveros and a Short Film About the Indio Nacional (or The Prolonged Sorrow of Filipinos). Heard anything good about either of them?

Those were the two names that came to mind (both within 30 seconds) but I wasn't confident about either until reading your replies. I wouldn't be surprised if under the pressure of the cameras I'd have drawn a complete blank. What was the category the question was announced to be in before the cont...

I wonder if frets about title confusion with the Payne film are the major hang-up preventing the Johnnie To Election from being picked up by a US distributor despite having been sold to pretty much every other territory in the world? I'm on the verge of going to Chinatown to pick up the DVD of this...

When my neighborhood theatre booked a double bill of San Francisco and Follow the Fleet last year I actually took the opportunity to try to recreate a 1936-style moviegoing experience, intentionally coming in during the middle of Follow the Fleet , watching San Francisco in full, and then leaving &...

I don't subscribe to either, but I have friends who do, and here are a few plusses and minuses as far as I can gather: netflix: ships from many locations greencine: ships only from one location in San Francisco, so if you don't live near there it might take a while to get discs netflix: has a large...

the Cockettes had the 1:20, 5, and 9PM showings and Harvey Milk was 3:15 and 7PM. I haven't seen the Cockettes myself but assume that's not the one you're referring to. Apparantly one of the co-directors was on hand for the 9PM show. Probably not one of the more festive in-person events ever held.

Last year's series also included Bullitt on a bill with Point Blank . Might as well fill in the rest of the blanks (as you can see, it was a much bigger series last year): Psyche-Out (no co-feature) San Francisco and Follow the Fleet Joy Luck Club and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner Amarilly of Clothe...

This is actually the second year that the Balboa has hosted a series like this; last year Experiment in Terror played with the Sniper , the Conversation with Petulia , Vertigo with Woman on the Run , and both the 1931 and 1941 versions of the Maltese Falcon played together. Perhaps Time After Time ...

I have no idea why Warners missed the opportunity to release San Francisco in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the 1906 earthquake and the 70th anniverary of the film's release in April, but I'm glad it's finally coming to DVD. In the age of Amazon pre-orders and Netflix/Greencine queues, ...

As much as I hated a Beautiful Mind, as much as I thought Gladiator's win was a travesty, this poll is in desperate need of an update, I'm sorry to say.
