Re: I'm always here for the Trivia

Big Magilla wrote: Mon Mar 11, 2024 5:27 pm There's a lot of information out there about adjusting for inflation, but has anyone done a study on adjusting for percentage of population?
That would be tricky for movies such as Gone With The Wind which have had multiple re-releases over the years.

Re: I'm always here for the Trivia

- “Oppenheimer”, with global box office tallying just shy of $1 billion, is now the third-highest-grossing film to win the top Oscar, behind only of “Titanic” and “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King". It is also the highest-grossing film to earn acting awards. If you adjust for infl...

Re: Categories One-by-One: Visual Effects

I am so clueless about Visual Effects that in the Prediction Contest I predicted Mission: Impossible as it was clear nobody else would be predicting it; and, if it did win, I would get triple points.

Re: Categories One-by-One: Best Actress

I would prefer if they go the old-fashioned route where they award it to the one here who has paid her dues - a career award - Bening. On this, I agree with what I saw on a YouTube video of Glenda Jackson presenting the Best Actor award the year Art Carney won, the award is for the best performance...

That was the same logic I used last year when I predicted Original Screenplay would go to The Banshees Of Inisherin over Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Actually, there are great similarities between Oppenheimer and Lawrence Of Arabia. They are both 3-hour-or-plus historical epics with titular characters who are tragic heroes.

Re: New Developments III

The U.S. Supreme Court will start hearing oral arguments this coming Thursday on whether or not Donald Trump should be barred form the ballot this November. This involves the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution barring insurrectionists from holding office and Trump's involvement with the January...

At the risk of appearing superficial, E. Jean Carroll looks amazing for being 80. she could very well have a few decades left in her.

Re: Oscar Nominations Announced

I've read speculation the reason France submitted The Taste Of Things for International Feature rather than Anatomy Of A Fall was Fall director Justine Triet attacked French President Emmanuel Macron during her Palme d'Or acceptance speech at Cannes.

My guess is, that if there were 10 nominations for both film and director, this year there would most likely be an exact matchup.

Re: Oscar Nominations Announced

I've accepted that Cillian Murphy (who absolutely deserved his nom) will be passed over in favor of Giamatti.
