Re: I'm always here for the Trivia

Mister Tee wrote Not a revolution, but I'd say progress. What's closer to a revolution is the number of women nominated for Best Director. This decade alone (if we start in 2020), we've seen almost as many nominated (4) than in all of Academy history combined (5). Not to mention twice as many winne...

Wasn't the recent Ari Aster film on that level (expense wise)?
Beau is Afraid cost (I think) $35m and then spent a lot marketing it. It didn't make that money back at all.

I'd imagine this would have a better shot.

Re: Civil War reviews

I mentioned elsewhere that the film cost $50m which is A24's biggest budget to date. You have to imagine they wouldn't make an investment like this if they weren't sure about its commercial appeal and how to get it.

Re: Welcome to the 97th Academy Awards

Mister Tee wrote For me, Alex Garland is one decent film a decade ago -- not much to hang hopes on. Film just premiered at SXSW. Early reactions are very positive. I'm going to wait for more proper film reviews (y'know, it's the SXSW crowd). I'm not the biggest Garland fan but 28 Days Later... was ...

So three more resignations and Jeffries is Speaker. Do I dare to dream?

When Tom Hanks presented best picture to The Hurt Locker he also didn’t recap the nominees and opened the envelope straight away.

I don’t recall anyone complaining about that back then.[/quote]

Re: Oscar Ceremony

I just realized something. Jimmy Kimmel sort of pointed this out during the show but if they gave Al Pacino the Best Actress envelope again the same thing would've happened. He would've read out Poor Things. Because he 100% was not in a following the rules kind of mood that night. I know Al Pacino s...

Re: Oscar Ceremony

It seems like general consensus is mixed leaning positive, which is a triumph as far as Oscars are concerned. Maybe we're out of the retooling era. The two standouts seem to be Gosling's "I'm Just Ken" number and John Mulaney. Those are higher highs than most shows get. On the con side, Ji...

Not a piece of trivia but I could see John Mulaney hosting the Oscars next year. Do I know this for a fact? No. But after he got more laughs in 1:30 minutes ("Some people say that the silent era was the golden era of film. These people are difficult and insane.") plus his governor's awards...
