Re: R.I.P. Al Kasha

I'm a fan. Both those songs and the films they were from are from my childhood. I very much deserved two time Oscar winner.

Re: R.I.P. Diana Rigg

I've seen the concert film of Elaine Stritch at Liberty - great entertainment. I would loved to have seen her performance on stage. All of the ones mentioned sound him spellbinding experiences. The only one I've seen that Mister Tee has mentioned in the theatre myself is Amy Morton in August: Osage ...

Re: Postponed 2020 Awards

Ideally, they will have a show, connecting with most, if not all, the nominees via Zoom. No red carpet, no backstage interviews, no nonsense, just the awards themselves with a longer in memoriam segment than usual They might even have to time to include this year's honorary winners. It could be a n...

Re: Happy Go Lucky

Being something of a Mike Leigh fan I've decided to revisit the few films of his that I didn't much care for. In the last few weeks I have purchased Blu Rays of Happy-Go-Lucky, Meantime, Life is Sweet & pre ordered Topsy Turvy. I just finished watching Happy-Go-Lucky and am now a fan of the film...

Re: Da 5 Bloods

I watched the first half hour, started to doze off, figured I'd better stop or I'll sleep through the whole thing, went back to Netflix, but got hooked on something else. I'll get back to it at some point. I might have actually liked it if I'd slept through it. I found it an endurance test. It remi...

Re: The Official Review Thread of 2020

I would not have even aware of the existence of the film until a local media outlet reported on the controversy on Friday. Given the film won the Best Director award in the World Cinema - Dramatic competition at Sundance I thought I'd give a look. I found it a totally innocuous run of the mill comin...

Re: Postponed 2020 Awards

The way things are going with the pandemic picking up speed it really would be better to cancel the Oscars for this year and combine them with next years slate. Aside from the fact that films are getting pushed back there are not many films in production so combining 2020 & 2021 together would s...

Re: New Oscar Rules

Firstly, of course you get to dictate what you watch - your time/money etc. And I have to agree - your viewing habits are gratifyingly broad But I'm genuinely curious now. AMPAS has point blank stated that films nominated for best picture must meet certain diversity standards. Does that make you le...

Re: R.I.P. Diana Rigg

She was my fall time favourite Bond girl so much so that I would have nominated her for what would have been a well earned Oscar nomination.

This year is proving to be the absolute worst year ever for celebrity deaths and will still have a little less than 4 months to go.

Re: New Oscar Rules

Precious Doll: why don't you take into consideration issues of representation when deciding or evaluating what you watch? Why should I? It is my time and my money and I'll use my criteria to determine what I will watch and what I'll pass on. I don't think anybody can point the finger at me for the ...

Re: New Oscar Rules

I really don't care what the Academy do so long as they or anybody else doesn't start telling me what I should watch based on race, sexual orientation, gender, etc, representation in film.
