Re: The 22nd Annual Who'll Be Back?
Another great wrap-up Tee! My first thought was Colman Domingo, who is more and more on the rise and who I loved in Ma Rainey. He also was something of a hit on the red carpet and hosted the Oscar after-party. It seems he wants to play the game to some extent, and I think he could be a contender soo...

Don’t Look Up.
Other possibilities: Belfast, A Hero, the Way of the Wind, The Card Counter.
Is Spencer adapted or original?

Re: Your Best Picture ballot
1. Minari
2. Sound of Metal
3. Promising Young Woman
4. Nomadland
5. The Father
6. Judas and the Black Messiah
7. The Trial of the Chicago 7
8. Mank
An odd year where I absolutely love 5 of these films, really like another 2, and only have little patience for one nominee (Mank).

I'm going to hold off final comment on this until later this week, as I have Pinocchio coming via Netflix (yes, I still use disks, sue me). I've heard more than one person claim that, if you've seen all five, Pinocchio is the obvious choice. Don't feel bad, my Netflix disc of Pinocchio is coming th...

I forget where I saw it, but someone pointed out that the last three winners in this category have been for prosthetic-heavy films transforming Hollywood movie stars into Conservatives -- so I guess Hillbilly Elegy would continue that trend.

I am almost in complete step with Anonymous. Opera is the most innovative and best of them, but the equally powerful If Anything Happens I Love You should win deservedly here.

Re: Categories One-by-One: Visual Effects
Black Panther had plenty of artistic value. It was one of the few MCU films that was more than just a comic cash grab. I disagree. The plot was nonsensical and it had perhaps the worst visual effects in the entire MCU. I respect its cultural importance but personally I found it no better or worse t...

Categories One-by-One: Live Action Short
Not sure how many people have caught up with all of these yet, but thought I would open up a discussion here. My favorite of the films is White Eye, which might also have the least shot of winning. An Israeli updating of Bicycle Thieves, I found it very powerful but I could also see it being the mos...

Re: Categories One-by-One: Lead Actress
Despite not knowing who will win here, I do have to add that this is one of the best lineups of this category in my lifetime. Even if only 3 of these would make my personal ballot, I wouldn't mind any of them winning and they would all be deserving.

Re: The Father Reviews
The Father, The Mother, and The Son were conceived as a trilogy of plays, all dealing with similar ideas at different times in characters' lives. I haven't read/seen them all, but I understand that while they don't intersect plotwise, they are meant to compliment each other and use similar techniques.

Have to catch The Father, and then I can vote. I've never been this far ahead of the game on the Oscar nominees.
