Re: Alec Baldwin Accidentally Kills Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, Injures Director

It's insane to think that something like this can still happen in a major production. I image if Baldwin accidentally fired the gun, even blank shots could kill at short range.

Re: Best Oscar Year (9th Decade)

I'll go with 2013, in spite of the large number of nominations for American Hustle, which I didn't like at all. The rest of field makes up for one weak film.

Re: Best Oscar Year (8th Decade)

This is tough. There's a lot of good films here, but every year seems to have several disappointing films featuring prominently also. My favorites are 2004 and 2007. There's nothing terrible in top categories and there's some good films (although also some terrible ones) in down-ballot ones. I went ...

1993 is an easy choice here, the easiest choice since the 1st decade.

Re: Best Oscar Year (6th Decade)

This decade overall just doesn't seem that great. I'll go with 1980, which is led by Raging Bull and The Elephant Man , and most of the other nominees are at least respectable. 1979 is one of the most frustrating years ever. The fact that Apocalypse Now lost feels absurd nowadays, but I suppose the ...

Re: Best Oscar Year (5th Decade)

Now it gets tougher. A lot of these years have some great classics leading the nominees immediately followed by several forgettable and disappointing films. It was a tough choice between 1971 and 1974, but I went with 1971, which has A Clockwork Orange , one of my absolute favorite films, and severa...

Re: Best Oscar Year (4th Decade)

Somehow, picking the best year from each decade has so far been a lot easier than I expected. In here, 1964 is the easy choice for me.

Re: Best Oscar Year (3rd Decade)

My pick is 1951. An American in Paris, A Place in the Sun, A Streetcar Named Desire and The African Queen feature prominently, and most of the other nominees are respectable at least.

Another easy choice with 1939, although 1946 has a lot of strong films also.

Easy choice with 1927/28. I don't really even need to consider the other years.

Re: 93rd Oscars Trivia

although the days of the split black & white/color craft categories might have a year where a lot of people won multiple awards. Five people won two Oscars in 1950. Art Direction was something of a studio effort in those days. Paramount won both color and monochrome AD categories, and Hans Drei...
