The SAG body recognized Daniel Day-Lewis despite not having had much of a chance to see his film either (screener or not) and they pick him out but not Paul Dano (who also had a showy role in the film and might have appealed more to them had they seen it). So, name recognition alone can generally g...

Jonathan Rosenbaum gives it a good review albeit not an outright rave: Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's arty blood opera about revenge, squalor, cannibalism, and despair in Victorian London provides a good many challenges to nonprofessional singers,...

I don't know what the complete shutout of Atonement and Sweeney Todd means in terms of Oscar hopes. I think only one of them will get in. But not both. I think Depp will still score an Oscar nom (at the expense of either Hirsch or Gosling since I don't think they'd be willing to nominate two twenty...

LMAO! Oh gosh, I hated this film too! Although I have to say Damien, I couldn't stand Ethan Hawke in it either. When his boyish, vulnerable side is not being brought out by the luminous Julie Delpy (another woman I'd give up men for. Shut up in advance, Aakash!) his performances are almost always a...
